Contractor in Texas is a Texas-focused marketplace that connects homeowners with local contractors. This page explains how we build our directory, how we write our guides, and the standards we hold ourselves to — including what we will and won't publish.
1. How our directory is sourced
Our contractor listings are built from public business information — company name, city, phone, and website — collected from public web sources and each business's own website. Contractors can claim their listing to manage and update it. We do not publish invented businesses as if they were real; any coverage placeholders used to indicate an area we're expanding into are clearly labeled and are never presented as verified companies.
2. Ratings and reviews
We do not display fabricated star ratings or fake reviews. If and when we show ratings, they will be clearly sourced from real, verifiable reviews. We would rather show no rating than an invented one.
3. How our guides are written
Our guides are written to be accurate and genuinely useful for Texas homeowners, reviewed for accuracy before publishing, and updated over time. Cost figures are presented as ranges and general guidance, never guarantees — the real price depends on your specific project. Where relevant we link to official Texas resources such as the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE), and your city or county permit office.
4. What “Verified” means
A Verified badge means our team reviewed the business's basic details. It is not a guarantee of quality, licensing, or insurance. Texas does not license every trade, so for any job you should confirm a contractor's license (where applicable), insurance, and references directly before you hire.
5. No pay-to-rank
Directory placement and search results are not for sale. Contractors can subscribe to a plan for presence and lead-targeting features, but a paid plan does not buy a higher ranking or a Verified badge.
6. Corrections and contact
If any information about a business is wrong, or you are the owner and want to claim, update, or remove a listing, contact us at hello@contractorintexas.com and we will correct it promptly.
