Terms of Service

Last updated: August 1, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Contractor in Texas — the marketplace where Texas homeowners post projects and licensed contractors send competing offers. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms.

1. The service

Contractor in Texas is a neutral marketplace. We connect homeowners and independent contractors; we are not a party to any contract formed between them and we do not perform construction work ourselves. Contractors are independent businesses, not our employees or agents.

2. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials secure. Homeowner accounts are free. Contractor accounts require a company profile and successful verification of license, insurance, and business registration before offers can be sent.

3. Projects and offers

Homeowners are responsible for describing projects accurately. Offers sent by contractors are binding proposals that expire as stated. Accepting an offer creates a direct agreement between homeowner and contractor, documented in a contract with itemized milestones.

4. Escrow payments

Milestone funds are held by our licensed payment partner and released when the homeowner approves completed work. Contractors are paid the full amount of each released milestone. Funding a milestone authorizes the hold; approving it authorizes the release.

5. Fees

Posting projects is free for homeowners. Contractors pay only the flat monthly plan shown on the Pricing page — there are no commissions and no per-lead or per-job fees. Plan charges are billed monthly and are non-refundable for the current billing period.

6. Disputes

If work does not match the agreed milestone, the homeowner may open a dispute before releasing funds. We will review evidence from both sides and may release, refund, or split the escrowed amount for that milestone. Our decision applies only to escrowed funds and does not limit either party's legal rights.

7. Prohibited conduct

You may not misrepresent your identity, licensing, or insurance; move agreed platform work off-platform to avoid fees; post false reviews; or use the service for any unlawful purpose. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided "as is." We verify contractor credentials at onboarding but do not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of any work. To the fullest extent permitted by Texas law, our aggregate liability is limited to the platform fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced on the site with at least 14 days' notice. Questions? Contact hello@contractorintexas.com.
